Superintendent surveys situation

No elementary school children crossed through the intersection of Saliman and Robinson streets Tuesday morning, reported Carson City School District Superintendent Mary Pierczynski.

Responding to reports of three children, all from the same household, who were struck by cars in the crosswalk within the last two weeks, Pierczynski spent the morning monitoring the crossing.

"We didn't have any other children who were crossing there," she said.

The children, two brothers and a roommate's son, were hit on two separate occasions on their way to catch the school bus.

The mother of the two boys called on the school district to install a crossing guard, but Pierczynski said the boys were going to the wrong bus stop.

She said the stops are designed so elementary school children do not have to cross busy streets.

Pierczynski said the three boys, who all received minor injuries, caught the right bus Tuesday morning. Other children and one parent reported to Pierczynski the boys were the only ones who formerly crossed at the intersection.

"Hopefully, we won't have any more problems," she said.
