Obituary Robert William 'Doc' Schulz

A funeral Mass for Robert William "Doc" Schulz, 81, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Father Joseph Abraham celebrant.

A Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Schulz died Feb. 9, 2002, at the Carson Convalescent Center. He was born Feb. 6, 1921, to John Robert and Helen Marie Schulz.

He grew up in Carson City and graduated from Carson High School in 1940. While in high school he was on the track team and the first Carson High basketball team to win the state championship.

He married Alice Mae Boardman Aug. 21, 1946.

Mr. Schulz worked for the Carson Brewing Co. as a delivery man.

After his discharge from the Army, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 31 years, retiring in 1976. He was also in business with his brother Ray as a cattle rancher. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, a board member of the Nevada State Employees Federal Credit Union and a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila. He also enjoyed bowling and dancing.

He joined the Army in 1942 and served in World War II in North Africa and Italy as a dental clerk, receiving a good conduct medal.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1988.

Among his survivors are his son and daughter-in-law William and Patricia Schulz of Carson City; daughters and sons-in-law Sandra and Tim McGowan of Lund, Diane and David Tieszen of Carnation, Wash., Sharon and Greg Miller of Manteca, Calif., and daughter Glenda Schulz of St. Peter, Minn.; brother Raymond of Carson City; sisters Helen Gifford and Josephine Jones, both of San Leandro, Calif., and Alice Bennett of Reno; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
