GARDNERVILLE -- A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church for Johnathan Lucas Wendling who died Feb. 12, 2001, in Gardnerville. He was 18.
He was born Sept. 14, 1983, in Visalia, Calif., to Michael and Karen L. Schaich Wendling.
Johnathan was a trumpet player in the Douglas High School Band and with the school's Jazz Band. He enjoyed flying, working on cars and photography. He also participated in "Kids on the Block" in drama class at Douglas High School. He is remembered by his family and friends as a very caring person who loved to help others.
Johnathan was a senior at Douglas High School. He lived in Minden for the past five years coming from Tulare, Calif. He was a member of Carson Valley United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Karen Wendling of Minden, brothers Jeffrey Ryan Wendling of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Patrick Nathan Wendling of Minden; grandparents Carl and Blanche Schaich of Minden; uncles Steve Wendling of Missouri, Wayne Schaich of San Jose, Calif., Dave Canton of Denver, and Dan Brush of Missouri; aunts Sherry Wendling of Missouri, Mary Schaich of San Jose, Calif., Bonnie Canton of Denver, and Nancy Brush of Missouri.
Carson Valley United Methodist Pastor Pete Nelson will officiate at the funeral Wednesday at 2 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.
Donations in Johnathan's name may be made to Douglas High School Band and Drama Department, in care of Bank of America, 1646 Highway 395 North, Minden 89423.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City is in charge of arrangements.
