Obituary: Edwin Powers Jr

A funeral service for Edwin Powers Jr., 64, a Gardnerville resident since 1994, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Powers died Feb. 14, 2002, at his residence. He was born July 17, 1937, in Memphis, Tenn.

Prior to living in Gardnerville he resided in Modesto, Calif.

After graduating high school he joined the U.S. Navy. He retired as an aircraft mechanic after 22 years of service.

Mr. Powers attended the Baptist church and was a member of the Fleet Reserve. He devoted his life to his family and loved to tinker with cars and to travel.

Among his survivors are his wife Joan; son Edwin Powers III of Riverbank, Calif.; daughters Kathleen Powers of Ceres, Calif., and Cheryl Ann Bell and Doreen Lynn Dynek, both of Carson City; brother Edgar of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters Doris Brewer of Millington, Tenn., and Shirley Munoz of Chico, Calif., 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, Calif.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
