Obituary Nicolaas J.G. Leyssius

A memorial service for Nicolaas J.G. Leyssius, 79, a Carson City resident for the past six years, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Leyssius died Feb. 22, 2002, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born Dec. 5, 1922, in Indonesia, to Jean Louis Guillaume Leyssius and Anna Maria Augusta Oranje.

He married Anna Klaverdyk Nov. 24, 1949, in Indonesia.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Pasadena, Calif.

Mr. Leyssius retired from the State of California Institute of Technology. He loved to ride Harleys and he enjoyed camping and traveling. He was a member of a rock 'n' roll band and played electric guitar, bass and drums.

He served in the Dutch Army during World War II in the South Pacific in Indonesia. He was a prisoner of war for 3-1/2 years.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Patricia Trefrey on May 6, 2000.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; daughters Sylvia Ferguson of Minden and Jennifer Leyssius of Jacks Valley; brother Chris of Sun City, Calif.; sister Coby Theil of Holland; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Capitol City Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
