Obituary: L. Wayne Long

A graveside service for L. Wayne Long, 76, a Bridgeport, Calif., resident for more than 40 years, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Bridgeport Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Memorial Hall in Bridgeport.

Mr. Long died Jan. 5, 2002, in a Reno hospital. He was born June 4, 1925, in San Bernardino, Calif., to John and Amelia Long.

He attended schools in San Bernardino.

He married Sylvia Bower April 4, 1948.

Mr. Long worked as a horse trainer in San Bernardino for several years and later became a general contractor and built most of the cabins at Twin Lakes and many other building projects in Northern Nevada and California.

He was a member of the Clampers historical society, the Lions Club in Bridgeport and served as the chairman of the Bridgeport Planning Commission for several years. He was a well regarded baseball pitcher in his younger years in San Bernardino. He loved to hunt and fish.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2000.

Among his survivors are daughters and sons-in-law Janet and Bob Griswold of Carson City and Carol and Frank Bashista of Hailey, Idaho; sister Dorothy Wallen of Oregon; grandchildren Brandon, Morgan, Holly and Alec and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
