Bulldozers have scraped away the sagebrush, the footings go in Monday and the building, a 21,000-square-foot wood frame structure, will be completed by July.
Located at U.S. 50 and Pine Cone Road, the Dayton Healthcare Center and Urgent Care is the first of its kind in the area.
"We really believe in this community. There's so much growth here," said Wes Granstrom, of High Desert Therapists. "We want to make high quality service is accessible to Dayton residents as well as those in outlying areas."
His group of physical therapists is partnering with a number of physicians involved in various practices, including the Tahoe Fracture Orthopaedic Clinic and Tahoe Carson Radiology.
Dayton's only family practitioner, Dr. Robert Kimmel, is also a partner and will run the urgent care facility. The paperwork isn't completed, but Carson-Tahoe Hospital is expected to lease space for a laboratory and suite of medical offices.
"The project sits on 3 acres. In addition to the medical center, there is a pad for a fast-food franchise and room for an additional office building," Granstrom said. "We also hope to have a community room that we can open up to different groups for health-related matters like wellness fairs and health screenings. It's going to be a beautiful facility."
Metcalf Builders Inc. has been named contractor for the project.
