Carson City resident Evelyn Dungey, a registered nurse and assistant director of nursing at Evergreen-Carson City, was nominated to be a torch bearer for the 2002 Winter Olympics by her son, Jacob Steen.
The 53-year-old said she is not a runner -- never has been -- and will be walking her section of the course.
"I'm deeply honored to be able to do this, as well as humbled by representing such a magnificent event," said Dungey.
"There's so many people who are wonderful people in this country that have done some wonderful things. What can I say?
"It was pure inspiration by my son as to why he nominated me."
The Olympic Torch will arrive in Carson City on Jan. 21 at 7:50 a.m. The Nevada Appeal will feature Carson City's 14 torch bearers through Jan. 20. Follow the torch's path at www.slc2002.org.
