The Carson High wrestling team warmed up for a tough week with a 74-0 win over Hug on Wednesday at home.
"Hug has some issues," Carson coach Tim McCarthy said. "They've really lost a lot to North Valleys and Spanish Springs. They're definitely struggling."
The Hawks had to forfeit five matches against the Senators. "They do have a couple tough kids, but we were jsut able to match up in those weight classes," McCarthy said.
On Saturday, Carson (11-0) will host Spanish Springs, Elko and Galena, beginning at 9 a.m.
"They're all solid programs," McCarthy said. "That's the type of competition we need."
The match between Carson and Elko could be a contest between Northern Nevada 4A's top two teams.
"That's the duals we've been looking for," McCarthy said. "Hopefully, we'll be wrestling well then."
Carson will follow with another tough match at Douglas on Wednesday. The Tigers narrowly missed beating the Senators for the team title at the Sparks Invitational.
"They're certainly closing the gap," McCarthy said. "When we wrestled at Sparks, they were beating us in most head-to-head matchups."
