-- The Carson City Health Department currently licenses 29 child-care facilities.

-- Each person asking for a license to provide day care undergoes an extensive criminal background check.

-- Anyone being paid for the care of more than five children during the day or night, on a temporary or permanent basis, is required by state law to obtain a license for child care.

If a conviction is found in the following areas a license will be denied: murder, involuntary manslaughter, a felony involving the use of a firearm or other deadly weapon, assault with intent to kill or commit sexual assault, sexual assault, statutory sexual seduction, incest, lewdness, indecent exposure or any other sexually related crime, possession, distribution or use of a controlled substance and abuse or neglect of a child or contributing to the delinquency of a child.

-- Additionally, the facility is inspected by fire and health inspectors and must meet state regulations.

--According to Nevada law, facilities are inspected at least once annually but subject to inspection at anytime. Should a facility be found to be in violation they can be denied a license, have their license suspended until improvements are made or have their license revoked.

Revocation of a license can be based on a number of factors to include: conviction of a felony by licensee or an employee, failure to correct a violation in the facility or aiding, abetting or committing an illegal act.

The Carson City Health Department maintains a log of complaints it receives about child-care facilities. Those complaints are investigated and, depending on the outcome, disciplinary action can be enforced by the department.
