Owners of Rumors Bar were warned Carson City officials would monitor the establishment closely while waiting for a hearing to decide on the future of their liquor license.
Carson City supervisors, acting as the Liquor and Entertainment Board, postponed for 90 days a discussion on whether Sean and Renee Blocker should be able to keep their liquor license for the bar, located at 1914 N. Carson St.
According to a report from the Carson City Sheriff's Department, deputies weren't allowed to inspect the bar June 18 after they requested a search based on information of drugs on the premises. After around 20 minutes, Renee Blocker allowed deputies to search the bar where deputies found a small bag of "suspected marijuana" behind the bar. Liquor licenses can be revoked for not allowing city officials inspection access.
"If I would have known it would have come to this, had I know what the laws were and had the deputies told me I had to let them in, I would have let them in," Renee Blocker told supervisors Wednesday.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the bar the evening of June 18 on a domestic call. Charges are pending against Sean Blocker in the incident, and supervisors, voting 4-1-1, opted to wait to decide on the liquor license until those issues, involving drug possession and obstructing justice, are resolved. Supervisor Jon Plank voted no after suggesting a hearing on the denial of inspection charge. Sheriff's Chief Deputy Scott Burau abstained from the vote.
Supervisors noted they always ask liquor license applicants if they understand the laws applicable to obtaining and keeping the license, and were critical when the Blockers appeared to be unaware of the laws.
Mayor Ray Masayko warned the couple one incident at the bar would bring them back before supervisors to reconsider a hearing on the liquor license.
