John Parmenter made his first ever home run a memorable one as he belted a grand slam during the Carson Cardinals 18 and under baseball team's sweep of Fallon on Thursday at Carson High's junior varsity field.
The Cardinals won the opener 12-5 and the nightcap 11-1. Parmenter's grand slam came in the nightcap. After Murph Glover was hit by a pitch and Tony Teixeira and Adam Martin walked, Parmenter sent a drive over the left field fence to give the Cardinals a 6-0 lead.
Carson took a 2-0 lead in the first when Neil Holmes singled and Owen Brolsma followed with a two-run single. Holmes also homered in the third to make it 7-0.
Jon Teeter's RBI single off the right centerfield fence gave Carson a 9-0 lead and Carl Winter followed with an RBI single to make it 10-0 in the fourth.
Ryan Henry came within one strike of a one-hit shutout in the fifth before a bloop double for Fallon made it 10-1. Henry, who carried a no-hitter into the fourth, struck out four and settled for a two-hitter.
In the bottom of the fifth, Glover and Todd Hendrix walked and Jared Ellis followed with an RBI single to make it 11-1 and the game was called due to the 10-run rule.
In the opener, Teeter singled, Winter followed with a double and Holmes hit a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 in the first. In the third, Adam Martin singled, Andrew James had an RBI single and Winter had a two-run double to make it 4-0.
Winter went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Teeter went 2-for-2, scored three runs and had an RBI and James had two hits and two RBIs. Jarrod Bone pitched a complete game for the win.
USABA World Series Notes: There's been a schedule change when the Cardinals host the USABA World Series to be held July 18-26. During round-robin play, the Cardinals will play at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18 and Friday, July 19 and will play at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 20.
