A memorial service for Carl E. Purrington, 80, a Carson City resident for the past 12 years, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at FitzHenry's Funeral Home.
Mr. Purrington died July 14, 2002, in Mesa, Ariz. He was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Greenfield, Mass., to Harry D. and Hazel B. Wiswall Purrington.
Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Orangevale, Calif.
Mr. Purrington worked as a salesman in contract sales for Sears and Roebuck Co. He was a member of the Elks in Mesa, past president of the Orangevale Chamber of Commerce and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Little Rock, Ark.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Among his survivors are his wife, Jean of Carson City; stepmother Winnie Purrington of Bernardston, Mass.; sons Vern of Rome, N.Y., Randy of Vancouver, Wash., Rick of Bothell, Wash., Ricky Swanson of Sparks, Gary Swanson of Eugene, Ore., and Greg Swanson of Carson City; daughters Kay Sharon Toce of East Hartford, Conn., and Karen Zimmerlin of Fairborn, Ohio; brothers Everett of Tennessee and Brad Sjoberg of Massachusetts; stepbrothers Larry Smith of Massachusetts, Paul Smith of Connecticut and Andrew Smith of Arizona; sister Shirley Miller of New York; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
