Missing man found

Authorities believe they've found the remains Wednesday of a Carson City man missing since May 24.

Nevada Division of Forestry employees working along Highway 28, one mile north of the Highway 50 turnoff, saw a vehicle on its side 150 feet down a ravine there at about 11:30 a.m.

A Carson City deputy climbed down and found the body of the man believed to be Roberts lying near the wreckage.

"At this point the vehicle description and license plate match that of Michael Roberts," said Chief Deputy Scott Burau of the Carson City Sheriff's Department. Confirmation of the identity is pending fingerprint analysis. The body was there for at least a week.

Nevada Highway Patrol accident reconstruction experts were called in to the investigate the crash.

Burau said there doesn't appear to be any sign of foul play, however they aren't ruling anything out.

Roberts, 55, left his southeast Carson home on May 24 at around 11 a.m. When he didn't return, his wife, Sooni Roberts, contacted police.

Sooni Roberts and a handful of friends distributed flyers with her husband's information.

She found little comfort in discovering her husband's fate.

"My heart is exploding," she said from the South Lake Tahoe apartment she was forced to rent in the wake of her husband's disappearance.

The couple had recently found a buyer for their Carson City home and were preparing to sign the paperwork when Robert's disappeared.

Roberts spent seven years in the U.S. Army receiving an oak leaf cluster and achieving the rank of captain before his discharge in 1976. He graduated phi beta kappa from Idaho University in 1969 with a degree in political science.

For the last 25 years, he worked at Harrah's in Stateline as a dealer.

"Everybody loved Michael," she said tearfully. "If anyone goes to heaven it will be him, because he was such a good man."
