When asked Sunday what the best thing was about her dad, Darian Sheldon, 8, paused for a moment then threw her arms around his neck.
"Because it's him!" she shouted cheerfully.
Darian, her sister Danica, 10, and dad Brian Sheldon started their Father's Day at the Carson City Little League Father's Day Pancake Breakfast at Seeliger Elementart School.
Sheldon said the pancakes were excellent, although by looking at Darian's half-eaten plate, you'd wonder.
"I ate cereal before we came here," she explained. "I didn't think the pancakes would be so big."
For $3 , the masses -- an estimated 1,000 diners -- were fed pancakes sausage, bacon, and drinks and given a raffle ticket in a drawing for a 1995 Toyota 4-Runner SR-5 donated by Dick Campagni.
Linda Ogilvie, of Carson City, was the lucky winner.
Sheriff's candidates, Scott Burau, Wayne Fazzino and Ken Furlong, put on aprons to serve the meals as about five other fathers stood under the sweltering sun and cooked pancakes on an outside grill.
"All the money raised goes back into the Little Leage Program," said organizer, Wendy Livermore.
Livermore said the food and raffles prizes were donated by about 70 area businesses, most notably: The Nugget, Cactus Jacks, The Horseshoe Club, The Sausage Factory and Dick Campagni.
