Crushers baseball wins two in tournament

The Carson Crushers 14 and under baseball team completed a successful Father's Day Weekend tournament with a 17-3 triumph over the Reno Sun Warriors Sunday afternoon at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.

The game was called after 2 1/2 innings due to the mercy rule, after The Crushers batted around in both the first and second innings. A three-run home run by Royal Good highlighted the scoring. Kyle Cahill and Logan Parsley also came close to going deep with smashes to the fence for extra base hits. Nick Smallman got the win, and went 3-for-3 at the plate. Earlier on Sunday, the Crushers lost to the Utah Highlanders.

On Saturday, the Crushers suffered a heartbreaking loss in the first game, dropping a 4-3 decision to the Washington Knights in the bottom of the last inning. Andrew Pitts went the distance on the mound.

The Crushers recovered to score a 9-8 come-from-behind victory over the Lodi Crushers in the nightcap. After falling behind 8-1, Good sparked the comeback with his first home run of the tournament. Leadoff man Markus Adams went 4-for-5 and scored three runs.

Trailing 8-4 in the bottom of the last inning, the Crushers were down to their last out before plating the ninth run on Smallman's RBI single. The inning included base hits and runs scored by Chris Ames, Jack Jacquet, Trevor Appelbaum, Pitts and Sean Costella. Good went the distance for the win.

The Crushers take the field again in a doubleheader Saturday at 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. versus the Sun Warriors at Washoe Field.
