Harmons to teach local clinic

Two of the most respected golf coaches around, Butch and Dick Harmon, will present a free youth clinic as part of a celebrity tournament.


The Silver State Junior Golf Academy and NFL Alumni will present its first Celebrity Golf Classic to be held at Sunridge Golf Course.


As part of the tournament, a free youth clinic will be presented by Butch and Dick Harmon at Sunridge.


The activities will begin with a reception and no-host bar from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 12 at the Reno Hilton. The clinic will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. July 13 at Sunridge with the tournament to follow, beginning at 11 a.m.


The tournament will feature a four-person scramble format with the team's celebrity playing their own ball. The tournament will feature long drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one contests and mulligans.


The dinner and awards program will be held at 7 p.m. July 13 at the Reno Hilton. Drawing tickets will be available and a silent auction will be featured as well.


Cost to enter the tournament is $175 per person. Checks can be made payable to the Silver State Junior Golf Academy. For more information about the clinic and the tournament, call 826-3144.


Among the golfers who Butch Harmon has taught are Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, Justin Leonard, Greg Norman, Steve Elkington, Mark Calcavecchia and Larry Mize. Butch and Dick are the sons of Claude Harmon, the 1948 Masters Champion.
