A memorial service for Helen Eliethe Slade, 76, a Virginia resident, will be at 11 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Virginia with Pastor Joyce Slostad officiating.
Mrs. Slade died Feb. 24, 2002, at the Virginia Convalescent Center. She was born April 14, 1925, in Two Harbors, Va., to Benjamin Franklin and Johanna Marie Johanson Jones.
She graduated from Two Harbors High School and the Swedish Hospital of Nursing in Minneapolis, where she earned her RN degree.
She married John Albert Slade Aug. 6, 1949, in Two Harbors. They lived in Virginia. She moved to Carson City before returning to Virginia in 1999.
Mrs. Slade was an RN on the OB ward of the Virginia Hospital, a Nurse Case manager for State Industrial Insurance System in Carson City and she looked forward to reunions with her graduating class at the Swedish hospital. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Virginia, its women's group and was active in its annual bazaar. She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren, gardening and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, brother Paul and sisters-in-law Margrete Jones and Gladys Jones.
Among her survivors are her son and daughter-in-law John Benjamin and Beverly Slade of Augusta, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law Pat and Tim Bangsund of Lakeville, Va., Diane and Eugene Hawley of Eveleth, Va. and Mary and Scott Thorson of Carson City; brother Robert Jones of Duluth and grandchildren Erin, John, Anna, Chris, Andy, Allen and Rachel.
