Carson City's Mikey and Aaron Orlick will again represent the USASA South Tahoe Snowboard Series at the National Championships to be held March 18-23 in Mammoth.
The United States of America Snowboarding Association annually holds the world's largest snowboarding event. There will be more than 1,000 competitors ranging from ages 6-60 in 13 different age groups representing 37 USASA sanctioned snowboard series throughout the U.S.
The five disciplines will be halfpipe, slopestyle, boardercross, slalom and giant slalom.
Mikey, a Carson High ninth grader, was the overall points leader in the South Shore Youth Men's (ages 14-15) freestyle events. Mikey will compete in the halfpipe and slopestyle.
The slopestyle includes jumps, rails, table tops and quarter-pipes.
Mikey will also have his final tuneup for nationals, beginning today through Sunday at the Vans Triple Crown at Sierra-at-Tahoe. He will compete against some of the best snowboarders in the world in the halfpipe, slopestyle and big air events.
Aaron, an Eagle Valley Middle School seventh grader, finished a strong season by placing second overall in the freestyle and alpine events to points leader Nicholas Poohachoff of South Tahoe. Aaron will compete in the halfpipe, slopestyle, slalom and giant slalom at nationals.
The Orlicks sponsors include Out of Bounds Board Shop, Undecided Productions and JJs Ear Candy. Mikey is also sponsored by Elevation Snowboards, Von Zipper Eyewear, Windells Snowboard, 686 Clothing, Northwest Boots, Drake Buildings and Kirkwood Resort.
The Orlicks are in their fourth year of snowboarding and third year of competition.
