Rotter, Anderson qualify for Junior Olympics

Two Carson City athletes have qualified for the Western Region Junior Olympics in alpine skiing.

Corrinne Rotter, 13, and Devon Anderson, have qualified for the Junior Olympics to be held next week Oregon.

Rotter competes for the Sage Ridge School in Reno. Also making the Junior Olympics from Sage Ridge was Katie Lyons, 16. Both girls will compete in the slalom, giant slalom and super giant slalom. Rotter will compete March 21-24 in Mt. Hood.

"In my two decades as both a competitor and coach, I've rarely seen the caliber of athletic and academic champions that is becoming common at Sage Ridge School," Sage Ridge coach Mike Savage said.

"Sage Ridge athletes literally hold down a second job as they put in 25 hours plus of intense training during the week and weekends with a goal in mind to reach the highest level of success," Sage Ridge assistant coach Liz Savage also said.

Rotter, a Junior Olympic bronze medalist last year, excels in the classroom as well as the ski slopes, with a 4.0 grade point average. She will compete in the J3 (13-14-year-old division).

Rotter is ranked No. 2 overall in the Far West region.

Anderson, who skies for the Diamond Peak Ski Team, will compete in the J3 division for 13-14-year-olds. He's ranked seventh in the Far West region.
