Obituary Martin Henry Halgrimson Jr.

Martin Henry Halgrimson, Jr., 69, a Carson City resident for the past 42 years and former Fallon resident for six years, died March 9, 2002, at Evergreen Health Care Center. He was born June 26, 1932, in Tagus, N.D., to Martin H. and Seattle Kjeldahl Halgrimson.

He attended high school in McGregor, N.D. where he was the center on a basketball team which won the state championship. He graduated from Minot State Teachers College with a bachelors degree.

Mr. Halgrimson worked on the Great Northern Railroad. He was a teacher in Fallon, teaching sixth grade for six years during which time he coached youth teams. He also served as president of the Fallon Teachers Association.

After moving to Carson City, he did graduate work at the University of Nevada, Reno, and became certified to teach special education classes and was also certified as a reading specialist. He finished his teaching career as an academic teacher for the Nevada State Department of Prisons retiring in 1989.

During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, especially RVing, camping and fishing. He enjoyed life and learning, sports and children. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose Lodge and a current member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1006. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He served in the U.S. Army for three years during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.

Among his survivors are his wife Sylvia of Carson City; sons Duane W. and Monty R., both of Yerington; daughter Mary A. Wenner of Gardnerville; stepchildren Roger D. Malone and Cynthia Malone, both of Sparks; sister Millie Haugan of Long Beach, Calif.; three grandsons and two great-grandsons.

At his request no service will be held.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
