The Alta Alpina Cycling Club will host an event for mountain and road bicycle riders.
The event will be held Saturday, April 20 at the Riverview Park at the east end of Fifth Street in Carson City. A free picnic will be offered at 5 p.m.
For friends and family members of riders who do not like longer rides or would like to hike, there are biking and hiking paths along the Carson River or at Silver Saddle Park.
Ride times and courses will be: 10 a.m. -- A road bike ride to Woodfords and back. Proposed route will be Edmonds Drive, Jacks Valley/Foothill Road, Woodfords, Diamond Valley Road and return. The ride should cover 60 miles and last five hours.
10 a.m. -- Mountain bike ride to Virginia City and back. Proposed route: Riverview Park to Goni Road in north Carson City to Virginia City and return via the old V and T Railroad grade through Brunswick Canyon to Deer Run Road and back to Riverview Park. The ride should cover 30 miles and last six hours.
1 p.m. -- Road bike ride to Genoa and back. The ride should cover 30 miles and last three hours.
1 p.m. -- Mountain bike ride through Brunswick Canyon. The ride will go from Riverview Park to Carson River Road to Deer Run Road to Sedge up and over and then south on Brunswick Canyon to Sand Hill Road to Mexican Dam Road to Carson River Road and back to Riverview Park. The ride should cover 30 miles and last three hours.
Those interested must register by April 13 by calling (775) 267-9908 or 877-5ALPINA. Those calling should leave their name, the ride they want and the names of family and friends who will be attending.
In case of bad weather, those attending should call 877-ALPINA before 8 a.m. on the day of the event to see if it's canceled.
