Mark Dana Grant Sr., 51, a Gardnerville resident for the past two years, died March 11, 2002, in Gardnerville. He was born Aug. 17, 1950, in Hayward, Calif., to Albert W. Grant and Maxine Grant-Loorz.
He graduated from San Leandro High School in 1969 and Chabot College in 1988. While at Chabot, he was awarded the Outstanding Club Member from Able Disable Club in 1988 and an award for Outstanding Service to Disabled Students in 1987
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived at South Lake Tahoe, coming from the California East Bay area.
Mr. Grant was an operating engineer for 38 years. He enjoyed music and sports. In his early years he loved his motorcycle and long rides with friends which ended in an accident that left him paralyzed in 1979.
He was a member of the Naval Air Reserve for four years.
He was preceded in death by his father Albert in 1988 and uncle Kenneth Rohrs in 2001.
Among his survivors are his mother and husband Maxine and Don; sisters and brothers-in-law Saundra and Eric Hansen of Gardnerville and Marsue and Dennis Lemon of Manteca, Calif.; aunts Delores Rohrs of Lincoln, Calif., and Patricia Christensen of Canyon Lake, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law Mark Jr. and Melissa of Dublin, Calif.; nieces Stacy Peters of Ripon, Calif., Dulcina Hansen of San Francisco, and Candace and Amanda Hansen of Gardnerville; daughter Jennifer Grant of Fremont, Calif.; nephews Nicholas and Micah Lemon and many others.
At his request, there will be no service, but his ashes will be scattered at a later date.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home, Gardnerville, is in charge of arrangements.
