Fernley baseball beats Yerington

The Fernley baseball team scored 12 runs in the final three innings on its way to a 13-3 win over Yerington on Wednesday.


Yerington led 3-1 going into the fifth inning, but committed two errors that led to a three-run rally in the fifth for the Vaqueros (5-4-2, 3-0 in the Northern 3A division). Fernley added four runs in the sixth and five in the seventh.


Matt Lambeth led the way for Fernley with three hits and six RBIs. He had an RBI triple in the fifth, drove in two runs in the sixth and belted a three-run home run in the seventh.


Lambeth also pitched the final three innings to pick up the save, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out four. Cody Wagner pitched the first four innings for the win.


Josh Hurt had a solid outing for the Lions, allowing one earned run through five innings.


Brian Reeder had three hits and four runs, Adam Schwab had two hits and Tony Selden and Wagner each added hits for Fernley. Bryson Masini had two hits and a double, Josh Farler had two hits, Aaron Roots doubled and Howie Singer and Hurt each added hits for Yerington.
