A service for Albert W. "Bill" Canfield, 70, a longtime Carson City resident, will be at 1:30 p.m. May 17 at the Fernley Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Canfield died May 2, 2002. He was born March 23, 1932, in Hill City, SD.
He served 3 -1/2 years in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged after being wounded in the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart for the wounds he received in combat. After his discharge, he stayed active in functions with the Marine Corps League, The Order of the Devil Dogs, the Purple Heart Foundations and several other military organizations. He was instrumental in getting the Fernley Veterans Memorial Cemetery placed in Northern Nevada.
Among his survivors are his wife, Ruth; stepsister Peggy Cummings; son Billy Canfield; stepchildren Thomas Thompson, Shirleen Martin, Lorna Thompson, Ruth Bunce, Dennise Brownwell; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins
