STATELINE -- A California woman accused of leaving the body of her newborn son in a casino trash can was arrested Thursday.

Christine Corrine Ramirez, 18, of Stockton Calif., was booked into the Douglas County Jail at 4:30 p.m. after being under a doctor's care at Barton's Memorial Hospital since Wednesday night.

She is charged with concealing the birth of a child and is being held on a $75,000 bail.

On Tuesday, a housekeeping crew discovered the baby in a bathroom stall garbage bin at 7:15 a.m. Investigators learned Ramirez's identity by reviewing casino tapes and interviewing witnesses, Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini said.

An autopsy on the infant was conducted Wednesday morning but law enforcement is waiting for further microscopic and toxicological testing to complete the report.

A homicide charge is possible if the Washoe County Coroner's Office finds the baby was alive before being stuffed in the garbage.

Ramirez is scheduled to appear in Tahoe Justice Court on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
