Photo by Rick GunnThree occupants of a vehicle traveling east on Carson River Road suffered minor injuries after failing to negotiate a curve and overturned into a canal near the Silver Saddle Ranch on Thursday afternoon.
Three Carson City teenagers were lucky to walk away from a rollover accident that landed them upside down in Mexican Ditch on Thursday.
A white Ford Escort containing the three teen girls was southbound on Carson River Road just before noon when the car eased over the line on the right side of the road.
Tire marks showed where the Escort skidded into the oncoming lane and then hit the dirt and overturned into the ditch, coming to rest upside down under water against the west bank of the ditch.
Deputy Matt Putzer said all three girls were out of the car when he arrived.
The girls were taken to Carson-Tahoe Hospital with minor injuries.
"You can tell there was some scrambling to get out of the car," Putzer said. "They were very lucky."
No fuel leaked out of the Escort into the canal, which is located on the Buzzy Anderson Ranch.
Mud and weeds filled the passenger compartment of the Escort as it was towed out of the canal on its top.
