Obituary: Alice Melville Nelson Hagan

A funeral for Alice Melville Nelson Hagan, 81, a Carson City resident, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, C Hill Chapel.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Hagan died May 26, 2002, in Orem, Utah. She was born March 9, 1921, in Montrose, Colo., to Clive Henry and Alice Ann Troutman Nelson.

In Montrose she worked for Woolworths and later moved to Hill Field Air Force Base to work during World War II.

She married Harold R. Hagan Jan. 10, 1949, in Virginia City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints April 24, 1965.

Before moving to Carson City, she lived in Fallon.

She worked for the State of Nevada for the Nevada State Library, Labor Commission and Nevada State Personnel. She retired after 22 years of service. She later worked for the Legislative Council Bureau as an election judge.

She dedicated many hours to volunteer service, serving on the Nevada State Employees Credit Union Board and as a den mother for the Boy Scouts of America. As a member of the LDS church, she served in the Young Women, Primary and Relief Society, holding ward and stake presidency positions. She enjoyed teaching the young children how to sing. She was an accomplished seamstress and excelled in needlework, made porcelain dolls and loved to travel. Her favorite vacation was a motor home tour of Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dec. 24, 1992, a brother, two sisters and son-in-law Leonard Hall.

Among her survivors are her son and daughter-in-law Harold R. III and Jacque; daughters Marsha Hall and Margaret Hagen; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Interment will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
