NDOT to buy four more parcels for bypass

Four parcels of land needed to complete the first part of Carson City's bypass will be before the Nevada Transportation Board on Tuesday.

Three of the parcels belong to Landmark Homes and Stanton Park Development. One is 2,955 square feet and the second consists of 2,102 square feet described as an easement. The third parcel is 5.53 acres near the corner of Lompa Lane and Northridge Drive -- all along the bypass route just north of Highway 50.

The fourth is the 28,895-square-foot parcel formerly the site of Atkins House of Carpet. The property is on U.S. 395 at the north end of Carson City. It is owned by Laxalt Enterprises.

State transportation spokesman Scott Magruder said there are still a "couple of small slivers" the state must buy to build that section of the bypass.

Bids for the bypass are scheduled to be advertised Dec. 1. The work will complete the northern half of the project from Arrowhead Drive to Highway 50 -- including construction of the bridge over Highway 50. The project will cost an estimated $95 million.

In addition, the board will vote on condemning the remaining parcels of land needed to widen Highway 50A and Highway 50 from three-fourths of a mile west of Leetville Junction to a half mile east of Sheckler Road in Churchill County. All together, 11 parcels will be purchased from seven owners to allow widening of the highway. Deals were successfully negotiated with the other 53 owners along the highway route.

The board, which includes the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and controller plus citizen members, will be meeting in Las Vegas.
