Comstock is sending a special train to launch a bevy of beauties.
100 YEARS AGO
Death of Tim Dempsey in Reno with his wife and two daughters by his side. He was one of the best known residents of Carson and had one enemy on earth, and that was Tim. He abused him to the end. In the days of plenty, he was the prince of good fellows, while his generosity ceased only when he died. Funeral in Virginia City under auspices of Miners Union, $4,000 in insurance.
70 YEARS AGO
Fine program at the Leisure Hour Club under the direction of Miss Clara Crisler. Mrs. Lucy Crowell read two of her father's poems (Sam Davis, Appeal editor).
50 YEARS AGO
Mrs. Sophie J. McQuarrie, known to everyone as "Mac," dies in Virginia City at 87. She came to Virginia City as a bride and lived on the Comstock all her life. She reared seven children, four of whom survive her. Her husband was killed several years ago in a runaway accident.
20 YEARS AGO
Gardnerville - Continental Telephone Co. officials began their final push to gear up Johnson Lane and Jacks Valley with a new telephone system -- replete with new telephone numbers and lower rates; 450 old customers were to unplug their old phones.
10 YEARS AGO
