The second annual Carson City Host Lions Club Peace Poster Contest wrapped up Friday with the winners each receiving a savings bond from the service club.
The contest is sponsored by Lions Club International to emphasize the importance or world peace to young people everywhere, said contest Chairwoman Lori Blum-Jackson.
Contests were held at both Carson and Eagle Valley middle schools. Contest winners from Carson City advance to the district level. District winners will compete against 24 international finalists for a $2,500 prize and a trip to New York City for the awards ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations. The other 23 finalists will earn a cash award of $500 and certificates.
"As chairwoman I was very impressed by the expression and creativity of the middle school students," Blum-Jackson said. "It is obvious these young people have strong ideas about what peace means to them. I'm so proud that we were able to provide them with the opportunity to share their visions."
Carson Middle School winners are:
First place - Lisa Hovden
Second place - Mallory Down
Third place - Summer Landstorm
Eagle Valley Middle School winners are:
First place - Katie Ludwick
Second place - Sara Kiser
Third place - David Nuebel
