Douglas football players receive football honors

Douglas High School's Luke Rippee was named Offensive Player of the Year and Grant Hall Lineman of the Year on the All-Sierra League football team.

Rippee received first-team all-league honors at both quarterback and defensive back and Hall was honored as a first-team defensive tackle for the second year in a row.

Carson junior Nick Shine was also honored as a two-way all-league performer, as a linebacker and at tight end. Chris Kotter, who rushed for 1,317 yards and scored 17 touchdowns for the Senators (5-5) this season, was named to the first-team as a running back and Allen Wooldridge as an offensive guard.

Douglas junior Andy McIntosh also received multiple honors as a first-team wide receiver and kicker and as a second-team linebacker. Evan Bill was named to the first-team at running back at the end of a season in which he rushed for 1,077 yards.

Nick Summers was named first-team defensive end and Jake Peterson as a linebacker. Both are juniors.

Rippee completed 84 of 162 passes for 1,258 yards (51.8 percent), 14 TDs and six interceptions. His favorite target was McIntosh, who had 37 receptions for 708 yards (20.8-yard average) and six TDs.

Three Carson players were named to the second-team: Jack Brooks as a defensive end, John Stewart as a linebacker and Matt Waterman as a return specialist.

Douglas' Craig Bell earned second-team recognition at both wide receiver and defensive back. Danilo Aguilera was selected as an offensive guard. Herald was also honored as a second-team tight end.

Nate Walsh received honorable mention recognition at defensive tackle, as did James Bunting at linebacker, Stormy Herald at defensive end and Drew Bateman at defensive back. Center Mark Butti and tackle Zach Johnson were honorable mention picks on offense.
