Trial set for McGill trucker accused of running down girlfriend

ELY -- A March 24 trial has been set for a McGill man accused of running over his girlfriend with a big-rig truck cab.

Lynn Samuel Hansen, 36, pleaded innocent to the crime this week during his arraignment 7th Judicial District Judge Dan Papez.

Hansen has been held in White Pine County Jail on a $150,000 bond since Tamela Grinie was critically injured the night of Oct. 19.

Grinie, 37, had just left the McGill Club and was walking to the home she shared with Hansen when she was struck by a diesel truck cab, authorities said.

Witnesses reported the couple had been drinking and arguing for much of the day, according to White Pine County District Attorney Richard Sears.

Hansen was arrested a short while later at the couple's home. The 1999 Frieghtliner he drives for a Utah-based company was confiscated as evidence.

Grinie was flown to the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, where doctors eventually removed the lower part of one of her legs.

Hansen is charged with attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon, or in the alternative, battery with the use of a deadly weapon.

He also faces a felony drunken driving causing substantial bodily harm charge.
