The Carson Junior Midget Blue Pop Warner football team won a seesaw battle with the Reno Vikings, 13-12, to improve to 3-1.
Reno led 6-0 when the Carson defense stopped Reno on fourth down in Viking territory. Carson mounted a nine-play drive, capped by Robbie Bozin's eight-yard touchdown run.
Reno scored on its first possession of the second half to take a 12-6 lead. Carson took advantage of a long punt that pinned Reno inside its 10-yard line. After the defense held and a short Reno punt, Carson ran and passed its way down the field, with Ryun Eichenberger scoring on a 1-yard run to tie the game.
Eichenberger then found Hunter Santillo in the end zone to give Carson a 13-12 lead.
Reno was driving at the end of the game, but key tackles by Daniel Feagan, Adam Carmazzi and Tyler Devall sealed the win.
The Carson offense was led by Bozin and Santillo and the blocking of Trae Tuttle, Feagan, Nic Cutunilli, Brandon Letizia, Isaac Holt, Carmazzi, Dylan Hills adn Christian Cattell.
Brian Halverson, Matt Barnes, Rusty Rogers, Feagan, Bozin, Carmazzi, Tuttle, Eichenberger, Devall, J.J. Demuth and Matt Kiser led the defense.
JUNIOR PEE WEE SILVER 21, DOUGLAS 0
Beau Bickel and Gabriel Pongasi each each made big defensive plays to key Carson's win. Bickel had an intereception and and Pongasi made a sack for a safety.
Zach Devall, Colby Blueberg, Tyler Charles, Luke Carter, Randall Oxoby, Conner Beattie and Shane Ahern all played well defensively. Oxoby, Carter and Beattie all had sacks.
Quarterback Conner Van Dyke scored one touchdown and Garrett Baxter scored the other two. Connor Love, Richie Putnam, Christian Yordy, Logan Peternill, Alex McQueary and Freddy Merrill all played well offensively.
Brett Myers and Bickel helped lead the running attack. This week, Carson will host the Reno Panthers.
MITEY MITES 19, FALLON 0
The Carson Senator Mitey Mites shut out previously unbeaten Fallon to improve to 3-1.
The defense was led by Austin Brown, Austin Buyak, Levi Carter, Ian Friesall, Josh Garcia, Andrew Gutierrez, Colin McCulloch, Willie McDonald, Corwin McIntosh, Austin Pacheco, Kyle Richard, Steven Rivera and Dylan Sawyers. Carson allowed Fallon to cross midfield just once.
Carson used a balanced attack, sparked by McCulloch's 34-yard pass to Pacheco. Sawyers scored all of Carson's points on three touchdowns and an extra point.
Quarterback Brandon Akers, Daniel Okimura, D.J. Parker and Sawyers helped lead the attack.
"Both Brandon and Dylan did a great job, especially after Dylan missed last week with an injury," coach Eddie Brown said.
Keegan Aiazzi, John Borges, Nick Garcia, Ty Keefer, David Kelly, Jacob Myers, Clinton Page, Zack Puzey, Cody Reno, Sage Smith, Nolan Tuesdell and Mike Walters paved the way with their blocking.
"Our line did a great job," coach Mike Pacheco said. "It's the best they played all year long."
Carson was also without its starting safety Anthony Peek, who will return when the Senators play the Reno Huskies at 6 p.m. Friday at Mira Loma Field.
