The Carson High volleyball team set up a showdown for first place in the Sierra League against Douglas by sweeping North Valleys 15-8, 15-3, 15-3 on Tuesday.
Carson improved to 9-1 in league to keep pace with Douglas in the league race. The two teams will meet Thursday at Douglas.
"They're a scrappy team," said Carson coach Daryl James about North Valleys. "We played pretty well. We started off a little slow, but we picked it up."
Rachael DeRiemer had 18 kills and 14 digs for Carson and Terri Niederer also had a strong match with 12 kills and three blocks. Also for Carson, Tabitha Adams had 44 assists and four digs, Shannon Devereaux had six kills, six digs and served for two aces, Alyssa Wilson had three kills, three blocks and four digs, Kaitlin Brush and Adrienne Fletcher each had three kills and Colleen Doyle had three kills and served for three aces.
Douglas defeated the Senators in four games in the two teams' first meeting.
"It should make it more fun," said James about a possible league title being on the line.
"The kids are all made at themselves," James also said about the first meeting. "We'd like to play better. That's not to take anything away from them.
"I thought they played very well. I think if both teams play well it should be a fun match to watch and a fun one to play in."
GALENA 3, SPANISH SPRINGS 0
The Grizzlies (20-9) improved to 8-1 in league with a 15-5, 15-4, 15-2 win.
Mandy Dickman had 10 assists and Kate Wallace added eight assists for Galena. Joanna Hixon had seven kills, Lydia Mailander had six kills, five digs and two blocks, Whitney Dibble had five kills, five digs and two blocks, Danielle Sindlinger had four dig and Jenny Burrows added two blocks for Galena.
DAYTON 3, FERNLEY 0
The Dust Devils improved to 12-0 overall and 10-0 in league with the 15-2, 15-3, 15-9 win.
Rachel Hurt served for five points and had five kills and five digs, Carey Kytle had six kills and three blocks, Amanda Ring served for nine points and two aces and had four kills and three digs, Sarah Connet served for three points and had 15 assists, Amanda Sbragia had eight kills, Bridgett Galles served for 19 points and three aces and had three kills, 15 assists and three digs and Natalie Malekos served for six points and an ace and had four digs for Dayton.
The Dust Devils also won the junior varsity and freshmen matches.
