Douglas has lackluster effort in 5-1 win over Hug

Natalie Romanowitz scored two goals and Terran Hadlock had a goal and an assist as Douglas took care of Hug 5-1 on Tuesday in Reno.

Sophomore Krysten Bartsche and McKenzie Porter scored the other two goals and Erin Gearty had two assists in the game.

The Tigers (9-2-1 overall, 8-1-1 league) had already beaten the Hawks 9-0 earlier this season, so coach Fred Schmidt was obviously disappointed with Tuesday's performance.

"We weren't very motivated," Schmidt said. "The game was never in doubt. But it's hard for kids to get motivated to play a game against a team you've already beaten 9-0. But it's discouraging when you see players just standing around and ball watching."

Douglas, which led 3-0 at halftime, also got assists from Tracey Hawks and Christina Bradshaw. The Tigers, who in second place in the Sierra League behind South Tahoe, play North Valleys on Saturday.

CARSON 5, FALLON 0

Katie Kotter scored two goals and Jessica Weir scored her first goal ever on varsity as the Senators shutout the Greenwave on Tuesday in Fallon.

Kristen Hale and Chrissy Katzorke scored the other two goals for Carson, which improved to 6-4 in the Sierra League. The Senators play Wooster on Saturday.

In the JV game, Morgan Beam, Sam Valerius and Sarah Johnston each scored goals in Carson's 3-1 win over Fallon. Carson improved to 10-0-2.

KOP UDPATE

Carson High grad Allison Kop, who helped the Senators win the Northern 4A Championship last year, has started all 14 games as a freshman for Saint Mary's College this season.

After a slow start, the Gaels are 7-6-1 overall and 1-0 in the West Coast Conference. They play No. 5 Santa Clara and San Diego in crucial WCC games this week.
