Obituary for Tony Melendrez

A Rosary for Tony Melendrez, 90, a Carson City resident for the past 40 years, will be at 7 tonight at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Walton's Carson Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Melendrez died Oct. 20, 2002, in Carson City. He was born March 26, 1912, in Los Angeles, to Joseph and Mary Lizalda Yorba Melendrez.

He was raised in Los Angeles and attended school there.

Mr. Melendrez worked for the Nevada Department of Transportation for 15 years as head groundskeeper, retiring in 1977. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and enjoyed family gatherings.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a private in field artillery, 108th Brigade, being honorably discharged in September 1945 with the rank of corporal. He received the Purple Heart and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.

He was preceded in death by his son David Harold Melendrez in 1977.

Among his survivors are his son and daughter-in-law Tony and Melanie Melendrez of Carson City; daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Michel Hobdy of Carson City; daughter Carol Hobdy; daughters and sons-in-law Denise and Joe Cabral and Barbara and Louie Remos, all of Dayton; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, all living in Carson City and Dayton.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
