Galena High's Andrew Eklov and Julie Burgarello cruised into the semifinals of the NIAA/U.S. Bank State Tennis Championships.
Burgarello defeated Palo Verde's Briana Moyle 6-2, 6-2 on Friday in the girls quarterfinals. Burgarello will play Bonanza's Estafania Serrano in the semifinals today at Reno's Plumas Tennis Complex.
Serrano advanced to the semifinals with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Valley's Sharyl Collins. With a win, Burgarello would advance to today's finals.
Douglas High's Melissa Oglesby lost to the Sunrise Division's No. 1 seed, Raquel Martinez, 1-6, 1-6 in the quarterfinals.
Eklov beat Clark's Josh Thompson 6-0, 6-1 in the boys quarterfinals. Eklov will play Bonanza's Bob Runyon, a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Silverado's Michael Uriarte.
Both Galena's doubles teams were eliminated in Friday's quarterfinals. Susanna Atherton and Laura Deitch lost to the Sunset's No. 1 seed, Bishop Gormon's Allison Davis and Carrie Schofield 4-6, 0-6 in the girls quarterfinals.
Taylor Ford and Daryl Gasca lost to the Sunrise's No. 1 seed, Green Valley's John Fayeghi and Jason Harper 3-6, 2-6 in the boys quarterfinals.
