Oct. 31 is Sight Night, a program where members of local Lions Clubs throughout the country join trick or treaters, but instead of candy they collect used eyeglasses.

The collected glasses will be cleaned, repaired, classified by prescription and hand-delivered by Lions Club volunteers to people in developing countries who desperately need glasses but cannot afford them.

In Carson City, the Maverick Lions Club will be joining the throngs of trick or treaters on Halloween. During the weeks preceding Halloween, Cub Scout Pack 143 will be assisting the Lions Club by collecting used glasses.

"Sight Night is a twist on trick or treating, combining fun with community service," said Terry Rubald, president of the Maverick Lions Club. "Sight Night is a great opportunity to help others by collecting glasses from neighbors and friends."

Have eyeglasses ready at your door or scare up glasses in your community as a Sight Night volunteer. To get involved visit www.sightnight.org or www.lionsclubs.org or call 841-3601.
