Mitey Mites clinch playoff berth

The Carson Senators Mitey Mite Pop Warner football team continued its dominance in league play with its third straight shutout in a 25-0 win over the Sparks Cardinals.


It was the fourth shutout for Carson, which finished the regular season at 7-1. The Senators clinched a playoff berth, but the opponent, date and time have yet to be set.


Sage Smith, Austin Buyak, Andrew Gutreez, Steven Rivera and Austin Pacheco all had tackles for losses for Carson's defense. Colin McCulloch, Anthony Peek and Dylan Sawyers led the pass defense, which didn't allow a completion.


In addition, Austin Brown, Levi Carter, Ian Friesall, Josh Garcia, Corwin McIntosh and Kyle Richard all played well defensively. Carson allowed Sparks to cross midfield only twice.


Offensively, Pacheco connected with McCulloch and Sawyers for 45 yards of passing. Sawyers scored three touchdowns and an extra point.


Daniel Okimura also scored a touchdown. Quarterback Brandon Akers led the attack. Willie McDonald and D.J. Parker also played well offensively.


Linemen Keegan Aiazzi, Jacob Myers and Cody Reno received the chance to play running back in the fourth quarter.


"This team dia great job," coach Al Teixeira said. "They have really pulled it together and are clicking on all cylinders.


Carson's only loss came by seven points to the Wildcats. "We are hoping to play th Wildcats in the playoffs," Teixeira said. "We would sure like a second chance at them. If not, we are hoping we would get to play against Douglas."


Offensive linemen Aiazzi, John Borges, Nick Garcia, Ty Keefer, David Kelly, Myers, Clinton Page, Zack Puzey, Reno, NOlan Tuesdell and Mike Walters paved the way.


"Our line did a great job," coach Mike Pacheco said. "They've continued to improve every week."
