The Carson Valley Eclipse 16-and-under softball team went 5-1-1 and won the California Grapettes Summer Bash this past weekend in Stockton, Calif.
Ashley Hartley hit 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Katie Pagen pitched a complete game nine-hitter to lead Eclipse past Chaos, 5-4, in the championship game of the 12-team tournament on Sunday.
The Eclipse lost their second game on Saturday, a 3-0 decision to Chaos, but finished up with five straight victories.
Kayla Dunn hit 2-for-4 in the championship game, including an RBI triple in the first inning when the Eclipse took a lead they never relinquished. Hartley also tripled two runs home in the third to give Eclipse a 4-1 lead. Valerie Smith also hit 2-for-3 and drove in one run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
The Eclipse needed extra innings to pull out a 4-2 victory against Strike Zone in the semifinals. The game went to the international tie-breaker after five innings and Hartley drove in the go-ahead run with a triple.
In other tournament games, Dunn homered to highlight an eight-run first inning as the Eclipse defeated Crossfire 14-2, then Hartley homered and Pagen pitched two-hit ball in a 5-2 win over the Stompers.
Smith hit .450 (9-for-20) and Hartley .437 (7-for-16) with eight RBIs to lead the Eclipse offensively during the weekend.
The team travels to Sacramento Saturday and Sunday for another fall tournament.
