Mitey Mites win Pop Warner opener

The Carson Senators Mitey Mites Pop Warner Football team opened with an impressive 32-6 win over the Lovelock Mustangs.

Colin McCulloch, Willie McDonald, Daniel Okimura, Austin Pacheco and Dylan Sawyers compiled more than 250 yards rushing for the Senators. Sawyers scored three touchdowns and Okimura, and Pacheco each scored once.

D.J. McCarthy also had a touchdown called back by a penalty. Pacheco scored on two extra points as well. In addition, Ty Keefer caught a 20-yard pass from Pacheco.

The offensive line of Keegan Aiazzi, John Borges, Nick Garcia, David Kelly, Corwin McIntosh, Jacob Myers, Zack Puzey, Cody Reno and Mike Walters paved the way.

The Senator defense held Lovelock to 73 total yards. Austin Brown, McColloch and Pacheco each recovered a fumble.

Others who played well defensively were Austin Buyak, Levi Carter, Ian Friesall, Josh Garcia, Andrew Guiterrez, Pacheco, Clinton Page, Anthony Peek, Kyle Richard, Steven Rivera, Sawyers, Sage Smith and Isaac Tucker. Brandon Akers and Nolan Tuesdell were out due to injuries, but are due back this week.

The Senators will take on the Sparks Wolf Pack at 6 p.m. Friday at Don Mello Sports Complex in Sparks.

RENO RAZORBACKS 20, CARSON BLUE 19

The Carson Junior Midget Blue team sustained a hard fought loss to Reno. Carson trailed 7-0 when Robbie Bozin scored from 38 yards to make it 7-6. Carson then had a strong defensive stand, stopping Reno at Carson 10-yard line right before halftime.

Carson opened the second half with long touchdown runs on its first two possessions. Phillip Maier scored on a 44-yard run and Bozin scored on the extra point to make it 13-7. On Reno's first ensuing offensive play, Tyler Devall intercepted a pass.

Hunter Santillo followed by scoring on a 50-yard run to make it 19-7. The blocking of Dylan Hills, Matt Kiser, Adam Carmazzi, Brandon Letizia, Nic Cutunilli, Daniel Feagan, Christian Cattell and Nathan James paved the way.

Reno, though, cut the lead to 19-14 and went on to take advantage of bad snap on a punt, receiving the ball at the Carson 14. That set up a 4-yard TD run that made the final score 20-19.

Playing well defensively were Levi Taylor, Rusty Rogers, Matt Barnes, Nate Durst, Brian Halverson, Bozin, Maier, Trae Tuttle, Ryan Eichenberger, Devall, J.J. Demuth and Matt Kiser.
