Carson teams win in youth football

The Carson Junior Midget Blue Pop Warner football team rebounded from an opening week loss with a 31-0 win over Fallon.

The Senators had almost 300 yards of total offense, led by Phillip Maier, who rushed for 108 yards and four touchdowns. Ryan Eichenberger also passed for 108 yards. The Senator defense held Fallon to 113 total yards and forced five turnovers.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Senators scored three touchdowns in the second quarter. Maier scored on a 3-yard run after a 24-yard scramble by Eichenberger on fourth down.

On Carson's next possession, Robbie Bozin scored from 26 yards out on the first play to give Carson a 12-0 lead. Maier then scored on an 8-yard run right before halftime following a 69-yard pass from Eichenberger to Bozin.

The Senators continued their dominance in the second half as Maier scored on runs of 65 yards and 1 yard. The blocking of Hunter Santillo, Isaac Holt, Daniel Feagan, Nick Cutunilli, Brandon Letizia, Adam Carmazzi, Matt Kiser and Dylan Hill paved the way.

Carson held Fallon to 41 yards in the first half and forced five turnovers in the second half.

Kiser had two fumble recoveries and an interception, Bozin had seven tackles and an interception, Eichenberger had a fumble recovery and three tackles, Maier had 13 tackles and Trae Tuttle had 10 tackles.

Tyler Devall, Adam Carmazzi, Levi Taylor, Brian Halverson, J.J. Demuth, Rusty Rogers and Nate Durst also played well defensively.

JUNIOR PEE WEE SILVER 16, SPARKS 6

The Sparks Cardinals scored on the opening kickoff, but were held scoreless the rest of the way by the Carson Junior Pee Wee Silver team. Led by Luke Carter, Carson's defense has yet to allow the opponent's offense to score in the first two games.

Randall Oxoby also sacked the Cardinals quarterback for a safety. In addition, Nicholas Margo, Tyler Charles, Gabriel Pongasi, Conner Beattie and Kristofer Canonigo all played well.

The offense moved the ball behind offensive linemen of Freddy Merrill, Alex McQueary and Dylan Downs.

Starting center Brandon Baxter missed the game due to an injury, but is expected back in the next two weeks. Brett Myers, Garrett Baxter, Beau Bickel and Conner Van Dyke have all run the ball well and scored this season.

Carson won its season opener 20-0 against the Reno 49ers. Carson will host the Reno Bears on Friday.

JUNIOR PEE WEE BLUE 14, DOUGLAS 6

Carson's Junior Pee Wee Blue team improved to 2-0 with a win over a tough Douglas team.

Jesse Snooks recovered a fumble for Carson on the first play for Douglas. The only points of the first half came on a safety for the Carson defense by Pat Craugh and Danny Gall.

In the second half, Blake Plattsmier completed a crucial pass to Josh Peacock that set up Colton Banta's touchdown run behind the blocking of Casey Foster and Cisco Scarcella.

Douglas cut the lead to 8-6, but the Senators put the game away with an impressive drive as Plattsmier completed long passes to Michael Lowes and Ricky McDonald. The drive was paved by the blocking of offensive linemen Gary Ney and Spencer Oesterling.

Carson opened the season with a 24-16 win over Fallon. After allowing two touchdowns in the first half, the defense anchored by Dominic Cavilia held Fallon scoreless in the second half.

Allen Saucedo and C.J. Davis and Gabriel Renteria also played well defensively. Gall, Craugh and Rich Johnson played well on the defensive line as well.

Plattsmier was solid at quarterback throughout the game. McDonald rushed for more than 100 yards and a touchdown behind the blocking of offensive linemen Maxx Angel, Scarcella and Foster.

Peacock, Lowes and Plattsmier also scored. Banta scored on a extra point with a great second effort behind center Ryan Hoskins and guard Gary Ney. Carson will face the Reno Panthers at 8 p.m. Friday in Reno.

SPARKS 13, MITEY MITES 6

The Carson Senator Mitey Mites lost a heartbreaker to the Sparks Wolf Pack.

The Senator defense of Austin Brown, Austin Buyak, Levi Carter, Ian Friesall, Josh Garcia, Andrew Guiterrez, Colin McCulloch, Corwin McIntosh, Austin Pacheco, Clinton Page, Anthony Peek, Kyle Richard, Steve Rivera, Dylan Sawyers and Sage Smith held the Wolf Pack to one touchdown.

Saywers scored on a 50-yard run to tie the game 6-6, but Sparks scored on the ensuing kickoff.

"That loss is my fault," coach Ron Pacheco said. "We didn't spend enough time in practice going over our special teams. We won't overlook this area again."

The Wolf Pack returned 19 players from last year's team while Carson returned only six. Keegan Aiazzi, John Borges, Nick Garcia, Ty Keefer, David Kelly, Corwin McIntosh, Jacob Myers, Zack Puzey, Cody Reno, Nolan Tuesdell, Mike Walters, McCulloch, Willy McDonald, Daniel Okimura, Pacheco, D.J. Parker and Sawyers all played well offensively.

Brandon Akers and Isaac Turner were out due to injuries, but are expected to return for Friday's 6 p.m. game against the Reno Wildcats at Governors Field.
