Obituary for Mary Lee Foster

A memorial service for Mary Lee Foster, 74, a Carson City resident, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Foster died Sept. 15, 2002, at Lake Almanor, Calif., of lung cancer. She was born May 28, 1928, in Yerington, to Lee and Lottie Scott.

She graduated from Carson High School and attended Colorado Women's College and the University of Nevada, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.

She married John Foster in September 1948, and they owned and operated the Treasurer Shop in downtown Carson City for 20 years.

Mrs. Foster was employed by the Nevada Department of Transportation for 24 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of The Order of Rainbow for Girls and Daughters of the Nile. Upon her retirement, she volunteered her time to the Master Gardener Program, Cooperative Extension Service and the First Presbyterian Church in Carson City. She loved gardening, travel and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son, John, and brother, Jack Scott.

Among her survivors are: daughter and son-in-law Peggy and George Hughes of Fallon; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Donna Foster of Sparks; grandchildren Jeff and Heidi Foster, George Hughes, Isaac and Larissa Foster of Chandler, Ariz., Jennifer Hughes of Fallon, Shane and Debbie Soares of Topaz and Renee and Del Bidart of Gardnerville and nine great-grandchildren.
