Galena girls edge Carson in cross country

The Galena High girls cross country team again edged out Carson High in a three-way meet on Wednesday at South Tahoe.


Carson's Shanna Sparks was the individual champion in the girls meet. Galena's boys also ran away with the win in the boys meet while South Tahoe edged out Carson for third.


In the girls meet, Galena had 27 points to edge out Carson, which had 33. The Grizzlies also edged out Carson for the title at the Incline Invitational on Friday.


Sparks won the girls meet in 18 minutes, 35 seconds. Galena took the next three places with Chantel Williams (19:43), Emilie Work (20:14) and Anna Breen (20:20). For Carson, Annie Brinson took fifth (20:24) and Sheena Bonaldi placed sixth (20:26).


Rounding out the top finishes were: Alyssa Abbott, Galena, eighth, 20:48; Tiffany Halen, Carson, ninth, 21:08; Kathy Nichols, Galena, 10th, 21:15; Laramee Searle, Galena, 11th, 21:36; Amanda Benson, Carson, 12th, 21:55; Kristin Neddenreip, Carson, 16th, 22:27; and Patti Capistrant, Carson, 20th, 23:06.


Galena took the top four spots in the boys meet to finish with 16 points, followed by South Tahoe (52) and Carson (57). The top four finishers for Galena were:


Stephen Pottey, 15:44; Raul Tibudiaza, 16:16; Geoff Cassaza, 16:21; and Micah Parker, 16:29. Carson's Josh Corder placed fifth (16:53); Galena's Chase Corriea took sixth (17:00) and Carson's Andrew Pederson placed seventh (17:07).


Also for Galena, Robert Shrake placed 11th (17:44), Michael Antwerps took 12th (17:47) and Dan Gaffam took 13th (18:09). For Carson, Adam Houghton took 16th (18:44), Shelby Moulden took 18th (18:52) and Ryan Turner placed 19th (19:02).
