Fuji Park is going to the dogs today and Sunday.
The Bonanza Kennel Club is hosting its annual dog show at the park on the south end of Carson City. More than 1,000 dogs representing more that 300 breeds have entered the competition.
"It's one of the biggest events of its kind of the year," said Gail Spieker, president of the Bonanza Kennel Club.
About 60 dogs will be trying for their obedience titles beginning 8 a.m. each day.
Judging begins at 8 a.m. with most breed-judging completed by 1 p.m. Judging for the seven groups -- such as working dogs and terriers --begins at 1:45 p.m. with the Best in Show ending the days' events.

On a smaller scale Friday, a dog show for four specialties was held by the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Reno, the Sierra Nevada Papillon Club, the Sierra Nevada Collie Club and the Northern Nevada Shetland Sheepdog Club.
Although Friday's events were not directly related to the Saturday and Sunday dog show, they set the stage for a special weekend for dogs, their owners and fans, Spieker said.
