Carson softball falls to North Valleys

North Valleys pitcher Nicole Ellis shut down the Carson High softball team on Tuesday, dealing the Senators a 4-1 loss.

"It was a cold, miserable day," Carson coach John Sullivan said. "We just never could get on track."

Ellis struck out 11. Sullivan said the difference of the game was his team's inability to hit the rise ball from Ellis.

Lindsay Farnworth pitched well in a losing cause for the Senators, allowing two earned runs while striking out five.

"She pitched very well," Sullivan said. "We had some errors at the some inopportune times."

Carson scored its lone run in the seventh inning. Ambir Rackley and Ariadne Gonzalez walked and Lindsey Perondi followed with an RBI single.

The Senators were held to four hits by Ellis. Perondi was 2-for-3 and Natalie Mandoki and Gonzalez each added a hit.

After big wins over Reno and Douglas, Carson has now lost three straight in the Sierra League, including a doubleheader on Saturday against Wooster.

Carson fell to 6-5 in league and has lost two-of-three to North Valleys. But the Senators remain ahead of North Valleys in the standings. North Valleys is 5-6 and still has the toughest part of its schedule ahead with games left against Wooster, Reno and Douglas.

Ashley Miller turned a wind-blown flyball into a game-ending double play as the Carson junior varsity softball team won in dramatic fashion.

Withe bases loaded and one out, North Valleys hit a flyball behind second base. The wind blew the ball all the way back to Miller, who was the catcher. Miller made the catch and threw to first for the double play.

Carson broke a 4-4 tie by scoring five runs in the fifth inning. Jessica Grant went the distance for the win, striking out seven.
