Deadlines coming up for arts program grants

Deadlines are approaching for a number of Nevada Arts Council grants aimed at supporting arts in education.

The Council's Arts in Education Program supports the goal of lifelong learning in the arts by promoting and expanding quality arts education opportunities for all Nevadans. To encourage participation in the creative process, the Arts in Education Program includes grants, statewide initiatives and professional development opportunities.

-- Special Projects for Schools and Organizations grant applications are due April 7 for projects that take place between July 1, 2003 and June 30, 2004. These grants support first-time arts education projects that demonstrate creative and innovative programming in school and non-school settings for students of all ages.

-- The deadline for schools and organizations to apply for the Artist in Residence Program is May 1, 2003 for residencies July 1, 2003, through June 30, 2004. Artists from a variety of disciplines, including music, creative writing, dance, visual arts, theater, storytelling, and folk arts, provide activities for students, training for teachers and community workshops,

exhibits or performances. Applications are now being accepted for new artists interested in joining the artist in residence roster. The deadline is June 16, 2003, for the 2005-2006 Roster.

Professional Development Grants for Educators assist classroom teachers, artists who teach, and arts administrators with continuing education, exhibitions and performances, special projects and supplies.

-- Professional Development Grants of up to $750 are offered quarterly. The next deadline to apply is June 2, 2003, for projects July 1 through Sept. 30, 2003.

-- Other grants are available for Teacher Training Workshops and Youth Programs.
