A memorial service for Charles Ray "Charlie" Freeman, 72, a Gardnerville resident for the past 13 years, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville.
Mr. Freeman died March 28, 2003, at home. He was born Oct. 20, 1930, in Topeka, Kan., to Charles Raymond and Hilda Dorothy Teresa Freeman.
He attended Alma Elementary and High schools.
He married Carolee Martha Lown on Oct. 5, 1951.
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Salinas, Calif.
Mr. Freeman worked for the Seaside Fire Department as a fireman for more than seven years. He then moved to Salinas in 1964, and was a union painter for 30 years. He loved people.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Jeannine Wilson and Suzanne Kasper.
Among his survivors are his wife of Gardnerville; sons Larry, Randy and Jerry; daughters Linda and Vicki; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home, Gardnerville, is in charge of arrangements.
