Superintendent receives positive review

After serving nearly two years as superintendent of the Carson City School District, Mary Pierczynski received a glowing review from school board trustees.

"The board of trustees believes that Dr. Pierczynski has exceeded all goals and has performed her services to the Carson City School District in an excellent manner," the report states.

Board members agreed during Tuesday's meeting that Pierczynski is performing well for the school district.

She, in turn, expressed her satisfaction with the board and the community at large.

"I am very fortunate to work in a community that supports our schools and a board that not only supports me, but supports the administrators," she said. "I think we're on the same page as far as we want the same things for the kids of Carson City."

She said a positive relationship among those who run the schools is essential in providing adequate education.

"When the board and superintendent are working together, no one benefits more than the kids in the classroom."

Pierczynski was appointed superintendent in 2000, just moments after former superintendent Jim Parry announced his plans to resign.

She taught for six years in her home state of North Carolina and after working for 10 years in the business world, returned to education in Carson City.

Here, she has served for 14 years as a guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal and associate superintendent.

Pierczynski's contract will end in June. At that time, the board will decide on whether to extend it, possibly for five years, and whether she will get a salary increase.
